Burton Redevelopment

The Bass New
Brewery Site
Redevelopment

A blend of Old and New

Scope of project

Burton was a powerhouse of the brewing trade in the Industrial Revolution thanks to the high mineral content of its water supply. By the 1880s Bass was the largest brewer in the world and a household name, producing a million barrels of beer every year.

The premise of the redevelopment is to work with, not against, the site’s brewing heritage, sensitively converting the original Victorian buildings, restoring the original central route through the site, whilst redeveloping the more modern brewery buildings.

A sustainable new community

Our development seeks to Retain, Restore and
sensitively
Convert these listed buildings.

Our mixed-use scheme will breathe new life into the now vacant site, offering around 300 high-quality apartments, a 150-key hotel and supporting retail and leisure uses.

The development will retain and sensitively re-use a number of historic buildings and structures across the site, including two listed Brewhouse buildings, fermenting towers and a copper kettle.

New buildings have been carefully designed to make a positive contribution to the setting, and the site will be completely transformed through the introduction of generous public space, creating a sustainable new community at the heart of Burton town centre.

Scope of Works

The redevelopment will include:

* Circa 300 residential apartments – in the main located towards the rear of the site

* Circa 2,800 sq metres of retail, food and drink and leisure uses – in the main located in the middle core of the site

* Circa 800 sq metres of workspace – distributed in various locations

* Circa 280 car parking spaces – some around the perimeter, some within an under-croft beneath the main residential block at the rear.
